Tor is free software and an open
network that helps you defend against traffic analysis,
a form of network surveillance that
threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business
activities and relationships, and state security.
I wish to tell about Linux.
Windows installion is easy so i don't want to discuss.

If you're using Debian, just run
apt-get install tor as root.
Note that this might not always give you the latest stable Tor version, but you will receive important security fixes. To make sure that you're running the latest stable version of Tor, see option two below.

just go to ubuntu software center and install 'vidalia' which is the GUI tool of tor.
For Open SUSE, Go There .
